Marathon Training Long Runs

When I trained for my first marathon I truly believed that more miles was the best way to prepare. I trained up to 24 miles and still ran a 5+ hour marathon. The more marathons I have trained for the, the more I have realized that running more is not always better. When I ran my last Boston Qualifying race, my coach only trained me up to 2.5 hours and I only did that once. That marathon was the best paced marathon I have EVER run. I found an excellent article today that confirms my experience. Re-Thinking the Long Run, really helps explain WHY most runners don’t need to run longer than 3 hours to properly prepare for a marathon.
